Mopar Gauges
Types of Gauges
Speedometer: The speedometer is one of the most common car gauges. It shows how fast you're driving and usually has numbers that go up to 120 or 140 mph. The needle on the gauge points to your current speed as you drive.
Tachometer: A tachometer measures how fast your engine is running. It typically looks like a speedometer, except its units are revolutions per minute (RPM) rather than mph. Its scale goes from 0 up to 6000 or 7000 RPM. If your engine is running too high for too long, it can cause serious damage, so be sure to pay attention to your tachometer if it starts moving into the red zone.
Temperature Gauge: A temperature gauge tells you how hot your engine is getting. Drivers need to keep an eye on this one because if your engine gets too hot, it could cause significant damage or even shut off completely. Most temperature gauges have a normal range of around 160-220 degrees Fahrenheit (F). If your gauge gets into the "hot" range (230-250+ degrees F), you'll want to pull over.
Fuel Level Gauge: This gauge tells you how much fuel is left in your tank. There are two types of fuel level gauges, analog and digital, but both work similarly. As you use more fuel, the needle or number will drop until it reaches empty when there isn't any fuel left in the tank.
Why Don't My Gauges Work?
There are a few reasons your gauges might not work properly. Some signs include blown fuses, bad ground connections, loose wiring, or an instrument cluster that does not work. If you notice any of these issues, you may need a replacement.
